AOC Strengthening International Ties

August 11, 2025 – Ms. Glesie Martinez, Senior Partner at Alas Oplas & Co., CPAs, recently met with Mr. Ryota Yamamoto, Division Manager and Tax Accountant from the Kyoto Branch of Yamada & Partners Tax Co. The meeting was held at the Grandline office in Makati and was facilitated through the AOC Japan Desk, headed by Mr. Junki Kanemitsu.

Mr. Yamamoto was in the Philippines for an English language training program organized by Grandline Philippine Corporation. The meeting provided a valuable opportunity for cross-border professional exchange, covering a range of topics including local inheritance tax, succession planning, and direct investment opportunities from Japan to the Philippines. They also discussed the manufacturing sector, which represents a significant portion of Yamada & Partners’ clientele in Japan.

A key highlight of the meeting was the exchange of insights on the regulatory frameworks governing audit and tax practices in both countries. The discussion explored the similarities and differences between the Philippine and Japanese systems, fostering mutual understanding and collaboration.

Interestingly, Yamada & Partners was formerly a member of BKR International, a global association of independent accounting and business advisory firms. Alas Oplas has proudly maintained its membership with BKR International for the past 12 years, reinforcing its commitment to global standards and international cooperation.

The conversation also touched on cultural integration, particularly the growing popularity of Japanese cuisine in the Philippines.
